#318: Give Something Away

Find something you do not use anymore or something that doesn’t fit. You might find one item or you might find a whole box!

Hint: Check with your parents before you give it away.

What do you do with the things you want to give away? Check the phone book to see if there are charities in your area who can take the gently used items to resell. The money they get, they use to help people in need. Sometimes, charities run second hand stores where you can drop off the items, some have bins around town, and others will come and pick the items up if you give them a call.

Or maybe you know someone in need who can use the item you want to give away. Or maybe you simply have a cousin or friend who is smaller than you and would love that sweater you've outgrown.

Make this a family activity: Clear out the closets! Everyone has to fill a bag.

This activity promotes tidying skills and sharing.

#257: Help Your Parents

Do your parents need help? Would it help them to set the table? Hand them tools?

Make this a family activity: Parents, kids love to help out. It's a great way to spend time together, teach them about teamwork as well as give them a chance to talk about what's on their mind.

This activity promotes citizenship, communication, generosity of spirit, and helpfulness.

#199: Pet Therapy

Pet therapy is when animals visit people who are not well. The cuddles from a friendly well-behaved pet help them feel better. Some places that might allow pet therapy are senior citizen and rehabilitation homes. Make sure you check to see if it is okay to bring your pet. Also check to see if your pet is suitable for visits.

If you can't take your pet out for pet therapy, maybe they can do something goofy to make you smile. :)

Make this a family activity: Get your parents involved in pet therapy and your siblings too!

This activity promotes wellness and helping others.

#96: Pick Up Garbage

Happy Earth Day!

Take a plastic bag and go to your local park and pick up garbage/litter. Be careful of sharp objects. (You might want to wear gloves.) Place the recyclable items in a recycle bin. Mother Earth will thank you as will the animals that live in the park.

This activity promotes community awareness and citizenship.

#26: Give Someone a Massage

Out of the goodness of your heart, give someone a back massage or if you're really brave, a foot massage. Watch out for stinky feet!

What is a massage? It is a way to rub someone's muscles with your hands. It feels really nice! Gently push and rub someone's back in small circle motions. Ask them if they want you to push harder or softer. It's a great way to help someone relax and do something nice for someone else.

This activity promotes bonding and care for others.
