#216: Fly a Kite

Hey, is it windy outside?

Go fly a kite!

Safety First: Make sure you fly your kite a long way away from telephone poles (overhead wires) and big trees. Also, never fly a kite during a thunder storm.

Make this a family activity: Take the whole family to the park to fly a kite.

This activity promotes timing skills.

Wednesday

#215: Cross Your Eyes

Can you cross your eyes?

Hold your finger in front of your face and slowly, bring it in to your nose. As you bring your finger to your nose, keep watching it with your eyes. It will make your eyes cross!

Make this a family activity: See if everyone in your family can cross their eyes.

This activity promotes eye tracking and coordination.

Tuesday

#214: Count Thunder

You'll need a thunder storm for this one. Look out your window and watch for lightning. When you see it flash across the sky, begin counting until you hear the accompanying thunder. (Thunder is the sound caused by lightning.) Count slowly, one-one thousand, two-one thousand, three-one thousand, until the thunder comes. Take that number and divide it by 5. That is how many miles away the lightning is from you. Some people don't divide by 5, and since we're just having fun, you don't have to either--unless you want to. Have fun!

Safety First: During a thunder storm, stay out from trees, the water and other areas that attract lightning.

Make this a family activity: Have everyone on the lookout for lightning.

This activity promotes math skills and weather awareness.

Monday

#213: Blow the Fluff Off Dandelions

They made a wish and they huffed, and they puffed...and they blew dandelion seeds everywhere!

Make this a family activity: Everyone blows the seeds everywhere!

This activity promotes increasing your lung capacity.

Sunday

#212: Make a Milkshake

Yum! An excellent way to cool down.

Mix ice cream or frozen yogurt in a blender along with a banana (for that milkshakey thickness) and a little bit of milk or soy milk. Add frozen or fresh fruit.

Ta-da! Time to slurp it up through a straw.

Make this a family activity: make enough for everyone.

This activity promotes food creation awareness.
